Massage

At PURA we provide two types of massage, Swedish massage and Aromatherapy.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage named for Per Henrik Ling, a Swede who, in the 1800s looked at Eastern and Western massage traditions and developed his own scientific system of massage movements which forms the basis of many massage techniques today. The technique includes long smooth strokes (effleurage), kneading (petrissage) and friction and tapping (tapotement) all of which work to relax tired and aching muscles whilst encouraging the flow of blood and lymph and enhancing skin tone.

Ideal for specific physical problems such as muscle tension and tendon and ligament problems, massage can be used to relax muscles after physical exertion or to warm and loosen them in preparation for exercise. Massage is also a great mental and emotional stress reliever. A treatment leaves clients feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is a combination of the therapeutic benefits of a calming massage with the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy essential oils. It uses your body’s sense of smell to help boost your mood, relieve stress, energize and encourage better health. It also works by absorbing essential oils into your skin and blood stream. This is where the “massage” comes in! The massage itself consists primarily of slow, gentle, rhythmic, flowing connective strokes called effleurage. This helps to increase the nourishment and oxygen to the tissues easing muscular aches and pains and helping with fatigue It also stimulates the lymphatic system, which assists your body in naturally releasing toxins. In a nutshell, an aromatherapy massage de-stresses the body, mind and spirit!
